Operating Systems and Processor Architectures for a Dependable Internet of Things
A central requirement of tomorrow’s Internet of Things is the ability to execute modular but continuously changing software dependably on an unprecedented number of heterogeneous IoT devices. Dependable execution in particular means that the software services and functions can be modified at runtime (maintenance), while operations are still guaranteed to complete within well-defined response times (real-time), and the devices will not be altered or compromised due to environmental perturbation or deliberate attacks (security, safety). This presentation addresses challenges and suggests concepts in both hardware and software that aim on the suitable co-design of novel OS kernels and MCU architectures for the IoT setting of physical attacks on compositional real-time systems.
